Canine Wellness
In order to keep our canine companions as happy and healthy as possible, it is important to keep a close eye on their health. The cornerstone of canine wellness is the physical examination that our doctors will provide during your visit to Furry Friends VH. On top of physical examinations, we also recommend yearly heartworm and tick born disease testing, yearly fecal examinations, and routine vaccinations. Living in Indiana also warrants monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention year round. Once our canine companions reach 8 years of age they are at a higher risk of disease. Yearly blood work is recommended for these older dogs including a complete blood count to look for things such as anemia, inflammation, and infection as well as a serum biochemistry to look for disease of the liver, kidneys and pancreas as well as other electrolyte abnormalities. This proactive care provides an opportunity to prevent disease or can lead to early diagnosis of disease often resulting in a shorter and easier road to recovery.
